Dear CDU user,
I you like the concept of CDZ (catalog tapes into a CATDISK compatible
database) then watch the next text to earn a free key for CDU and MTA
(the major archive conversion program) ! If you did like the CDZ idea
but your tape-drive is not supported and/or your software release is
not supported you should also continue to read.
Compatibility
-------------
If your tape-software is not supported by CDZ or you have an older or
newer version of the CMS Jumbo software (other than 3.03) or you have a
tape-drive with different software, you could consider to contact me by
writing a message to 2:281/904.5. In any case you must consider the
following before contacting me:
- Is your software able to run in batch-mode (e.g. with no or a minimal
number of key-strokes). If not, I can not support the software. CDZ
has to call the software to obtain the information from the
tape-drive and the tape;
- Does your software write to standard output (e.g. when you run the
software like this, 'software.exe /commands >test' then, does the
software write the information to the file test ? If not, no support
can be included because CDZ needs to read the output from the tape
software;
If these conditions are met, you can contact me, and we can try to find
a way to support your software/tape-drive. For CMS drives, I need the
equivalents for TAPE SEARCH /S /P and TAPE SEARCH \*.* /S /P /V=1 (it
this tells you something).
Free keys ???
-------------
All over the place, there is NO information at all about the QIC-40 and
QIC-80 interface (in combination with the QIC-117 interface). I need
some (or all) of the information to try to write a tape-interface
myself without the need for secondary programs (like CMS's TAPE.EXE and
so on).
If this information is public or can be obtained and you have access to
such information (we don't have much info over here in Holland), please
contact me. If the information is of interest to me, I am wiling to
swap the information for a free key for CDU and MTA (non-commercial).
If you happen to know where to obtain the information, but you don't
have public access to it, I am still interested. In that case I need
the address to contact and (if possible) the price. If this turns out
to be correct information, the same offer goes.
Better still. If you have knowledge of any commercial routine (pascal)
that can access the tape-drive (CMS/Jumbo preferred), I would like to
share this information so I can write to the vendor for information.
And when you have shareware versions of such software (TPU files and/or
source-code) I would be very happy. In these both cases the same offer
goes (free keys for CDU and MTA).
All related information from the Colorado BBS (USA) is available over
here, so you can skip the obvious files like the 'tip' file on the QIC
standards and so on....
Many thanks in advance,
Robert W. van Hoeven
